Dues Assistance Program

The Board has identified three ways you may get all or a portion of your annual dues paid for.
1. First Year (Rookie Members)-The Battlefields to Ballfields Foundation will provide scholarships to qualified veterans who return from defending our country with an opportunity to get integrated back into their community through officiating. Active duty or retired military may have all of their dues and NASO insurance covered by the Foundation. Simply complete a short application by going to https://www.battlefields2ballfields.org/
2. Through our partnership with the Ryan Lemmon Foundation, OCBOA has established a Scholarship Committee to review applications, and approve scholarship funding to those who are qualified and in need of financial assistance for dues and/or equipment (equipment is for first year members only). To be considered for scholarship funding, please complete the Scholarship Application that can be found at the OCBOA.com site-Library-Other-Scholarship Application
3. Refer A Friend program was so successful last year - we have brought it back. You may refer up to 2 members and receive up to a maximum of $50 credit for the 2025 Season.

WAIVER, RELEASE AND COVENANT NOT TO SUE RECITALS

The person registering herein ["The Official"] desires to enter into a course of training from Orange County Baseball Officials Association ["The Association"] and, incidently thereto, to earn the opportunity to receive game assignments from The Association for payment. In consideration thereof, Official and Association have identified certain Released Events which are listed below. In order to register with the Association, to be offered training therein, and to have the opportunity to officiate games, Official agrees to be bound by this Waiver, Release, and Covenant Not to Sue.

THE RELEASED EVENTS

1) Any and all claims arising from and or out of personal injury to Official in the course of training for, traveling to and from, and/or officiating baseball games assigned to Official by or through Association.
2) Any and all claims arising from and/or out of any schedule of games granted to Official, and/or modified by Association, including without limitation games removed from Official’s schedule.
3) Any and all claims regarding the ratings and evaluations given to Official from time to time, including without limitation, the alleged failure to rate and/or evaluate.
4) Any and all other claims arising in any way from the membership of Official in Association, or the denial or termination thereof.

RELEASE

Official [on behalf of himself, his personal representatives, agents, successors, and assigns] hereby fully, finally, and forever releases and discharges Association and its personal representatives, affiliates, and any and all of their past, present, and future employees, officers, directors, members, partners, joint venturers, independent contractors, attorneys, insurers, agents, successors, assigns, and representatives and from any and all actions, causes of action, claims, demands, damages, debts, losses, costs, expenses, attorney fees or other liabilities of every kind and nature whatsoever, whether legal or equitable and whether known or unknown, arising out of, resulting from, or relating to the Released Events.
In witness whereof, Official has checked the box on the registration website.

Independant Contractor Agreement

Appointment to the roster of umpires by OCBOA does not carry any obligation on the part of OCBOA to make any specific number or type of assignments. Assignments made may include any or all levels of games. Any assignments made may be cancelled or rearranged as is deemed necessary by the OCBOA Assignor. The umpire is an independent contractor and not an employee of OCBOA, its agents, or of any of the clients/schools served by OCBOA. All travel arrangements to the site of each game to which the umpire may be assigned are the sole responsibility of the individual umpire. The umpire understands and agrees that neither OCBOA, nor any of the clients/institutions it serves provides Worker’s Compensation Insurance benefits for umpires, as each umpire is an Independent Contractor and not an employee of OCBOA or the clients/institutions that are serviced by OCBOA. The umpire agrees to hold harmless and indemnify OCBOA, its agents, and the clients/ institutions it serves, from any and all liability imputed to them for injuries or damages caused to any person or property solely due to any negligent or intentional act or omission of the umpire arising out of the umpire’s assignment(s) to provide services at any athletic contest, game, or event assigned by OCBOA. The umpire agrees to hold harmless OCBOA, its agents and its clients/ institutions, from any injury or damage suffered by the umpire in his/her capacity as an official, unless the injury or damage is caused solely by the misconduct or negligence of OCBOA, its agents, or the clients/schools it serves. The umpire warrants that he/she is physically fit commensurate with the rigors of baseball officiating. The umpire further agrees that he/she will stay in physical condition fit to perform the duties required of an umpire. The umpire will promptly notify OCBOA any time that his/her condition, for any reason, would interfere with the performance of his/her officiating duties. The official agrees to pay all certification fees as set by client groups, and liability insurance as required by OCBOA. During the term of this agreement, either OCBOA, or the umpire may terminate the agreement, with, or without cause, upon ten (10) days written notice to the other party. The terms of this agreement begin on Jan.1, 2023 and expire on June 15th, 2023. The umpire and OCBOA agree that each has read and understands the foregoing conditions and will abide by the conditions that apply to them respectively.

NFHS/C.I.F. Southern Section Code of Ethics – Officials

Officials at an interscholastic athletic event are participants in the educational development of high school students. As such, they must exercise a high level of self-discipline, independence and responsibility. The purpose of this Code is to establish guidelines for ethical standards of conduct for all interscholastic officials.
  As an officials, I understand that it is my responsibility to:
  1) Master both the rules of the game and the mechanics necessary to enforce the rules, and shall exercise authority in an impartial, firm and controlled manner.
  2) Work with each other, their state associations and their sections in a constructive and cooperative manner.
  3) Uphold the honor and dignity of the profession in all interaction with student-athletes, coaches, athletic directors, school administrators, colleagues and the public.
  4) Prepare themselves both physically and mentally, shall dress neatly and appropriately and shall comport themselves in a manner consistent with the high standards of the profession.
  5) Be punctual and professional in the fulfillment of all contractual obligations.
  6) Remain mindful that their conduct influences the respect that student-athletes, coaches and the public hold for the profession.
  7) While enforcing the rules of play, remain aware of the inherent risk of injury that competition poses to student-athletes. Where appropriate, they shall inform event management of conditions or situations that appear unreasonably hazardous.
  8) Take reasonable steps to educate themselves in the recognition of emergency conditions that might arise during the course of competition.
  9 Support the principles of Pursuing Victory with Honor and uphold the Six Pillars of Character:
  - Trustworthiness - Respect - Responsibility - Fairness - Caring - Citizenship
  By agreeing below, I agree to abide by the NFHS/C.I.F. Southern Section Official’s Code of Ethics.
  A copy of this form must be kept on file with the Unit President of each Official’s Sport Association and each Unit’s Statement of Compliance must be on file at the C.I.F. Southern Section Office.
